WE ARE TEN YEARS OLD!!!!!!!

In October of 2014, Tabitha’s Daughters was born. Beginning with nine women, including our founder, Angie (Maxine) Garrett of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Tabitha’s Daughters formed, as an empowered fellowship of women who desired community through sisterhood and sharing our unique and personal stories with each other. As our sisterhood grew from nine to forty-five women (and counting). HEALTH JUSTICE is now our designated mission, as we continually seek to transform ourselves (mind, body, & soul), that we may be healed and become healers of our community.

MISSION STATEMENT: Tabitha’s Daughters, LLC seeks: Empowerment, healing, and transformation of women’s lives by the communal practice of sisterly fellowship, including study and sharing of our life stories.

It’s a Brand New Year [2024] and a Brand New Opportunity to Grow, Explore, Learn & Challenge Ourselves to BE Empowered Women Who Empower Others through discovered Self-Care Practices which lead us to Self-Love and Transformation!

In February 2023, Tabitha’s Daughters created a support therapy group (10 weeks) of intense group therapy with 10 Tabitha’s Daughters facilitated by Dr. Sharon R. Higginbothan. Our group (weekly) examined our need to confront issues of anxiety, depression, resignation, and family trauma, through the lens of our collective orientation: Black Women in America. Our intentionality is to “heal” (therapeuo) ourselves by confronting these negative elements of our lives which threaten to steal our joy and our good mental, physical, and spiritual health. This initiative began with mental health, and we will move to body/physical health, and finally to soulful/spiritual health.

Under the clarion call of, “Give Us Our Inheritance!” Tabitha’s Daughters continues to seek health justice for our fellowship through the exploration and discovery of seeking good mental, physical, and spiritual health together, as a fellowship of empowered and healing women.

Dr. Rose Moriarity was a treasure and tour de force within Pittsburgh’s education community. Known for her fierce caring and concern for children’s education, Dr. Rose was the first African American female principal of an African centered school in the Pittsburgh school system, (Miller African-Centered Academy.) Because of Rose and her creative vision for improved education of black children, this endeavor was supported by PPS and became a reality in the Hill District community of Pittsburgh.

Rose was a wife, mother, grandmother, and friend of all who knew her. In 2016, Dr. Rose joined the Tabitha’s Daughters Fellowship in Pittsburgh, PA and became an instant loving presence and Elder of our sisterhood. Her courage and devotion to her family and community was experienced by those who loved her and watched her valiant fight against cancer, until she transitioned on May 12, 2022.

Tabitha’s Daughters dedicated the Dr. Rose Moriarty Courage Annual Scholarship through the Daniel’s Den Cancer Ministry. Roxanne Robinson, member of Tabitha’s Daughters and founder of Daniel’s Den collaborated with our fellowship to establish this annual offering to cancer survivors who will receive monetary support from our partnership.

“TRUTH IS POWERFUL AND IT PREVAILS” – Sojourner Truth

Currently, in the state of Florida, led by Governor Ron DeSantis, the history of the African in America is being erased. Statements such as his: “Slaves developed skills which, in some instances, could be applied for their personal benefit,” are replacing the authentic stories of our enslaved ancestors. Florida teachers are currently being forced to readjust and teach curriculum that lies about the inhumane passage of the Africans to the Americas, and the 400 years of forced labor and the selling of human beings in the Americas, because the truth does not fit the political agenda of the day. Fear and intolerance are on the rise, especially when our history is erased because of denial and hate. Tabitha’s Daughters must be part of the antidote to this disturbing mindset. The antidote is JUSTICE!

Margaret Mead once observed: “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.” Tabitha’s Daughters is among the “small group of thoughtful, committed citizens,” who seek to change this present dangerous and vicious agenda.

Our new project”, “The Lioness Speaks” is an archive and intentional chronicling of our TRUTH – Our Truth is: Our stories of survival, victory, defeat, transformation, and healing. Tabitha’s Daughters, LLC introduces a new project for our organization entitled: “Therapeuo.” This is a Greek word that means: “heal, healing, healed.” In response to our Self-Care Retreat of 10/7/2022 in Monroe, North Carolina (pictures posted), this new project was identified and created.

Guest facilitator and therapist, Dr. Sharon Higginbothan (Higginbothan & Associates) joined in collaboration with Tabitha’s Daughters to create a therapeutic support group for women which offers healing, self-transformation, and mental health justice to those of us who are seeking empowerment and growth through support group therapy.

A Time of Healing & Restoration – “Therapeuo is a gathering of women to offer support around emotional and mental well-being. The Therapeuo Project focuses on everything that keeps women from authentically embracing our inter-beauty, awareness, and good mental health for ourselves, our community, and the world.” Let the healing begin!
